The Volumetric Thorax and The Volumetric Pelvis are complementary classes that closely examine the structural, functional, and perceptual relationships between these two segments of the body.

These classes have two overarching goals:

The first is to offer a theoretical framework that will support the practitioner in making analytical decisions about how best to intervene. This creates context for every individual intervention to be part of a cohesive plan to facilitate integration, as opposed to isolated interventions concerned with releasing what is tight or short.

The second is to broaden your understanding of anatomy in both a relational and "volumetric" way, giving special attention to the fluid dynamics of the tissues and the different hydrostatic pressure systems in the body. As part of this second goal you will learn to address broad structural patterns which span multiple joints and body segments using single, simple, elegant techniques.

In this class, we will prioritize the pelvis as the main reference; however, we will address the larger territory spanning the functional LDH down to the feet.

These classes can be taken in any order, so one is not a pre-requisite for the other.

About the Instructor

Juan David Vélez has been a Faculty member for the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® for the last 28 years. He actively teaches all classes, from Phase 1 to Advanced Training, including Rolf Movement® and Life Sciences. His passion lies in the philosophical framework of the work, and as a teacher, he strives to speak to all different types of learners, holding the space for the intuitive, subtle, and empathetic, while also speaking the language of the linear and anatomical
