The Volumetric Thorax and The Volumetric Pelvis are complimentary classes that examine specific ways in which what happens in one of these segments of the body has a direct correlation to the other. 

The "Volumetric Approach" is based on a deep clinical understanding of the role that fluids play in supporting the structure that fascia helps to define. Fluids, within fascial compartments, create different hydrostatic pressure systems in the body. These pressure systems are dynamic and very responsive to patterns of tension or distortion. To better understand these dynamics we will explore the anatomy through a new lens to gain a more accurate understanding of the human structure. This exploration will equally be supported by relevant functional and perceptual considerations.

Another supporting element of this volumetric exploration is a model of seeing that I have been developing over the years which prioritizes an understanding of structural relationships. Unlike traditional models of seeing that map positional patterns, or areas of tension, this new model of seeing will help you understand how, for example, two individuals with similar body types and identical anterior pelvic tilts may benefit from radically different interventions. There is a logic to the assessment process that, when understood, will lead you to precise and efficient interventions.

I am grateful to the many students who have participated previous versions of this class, as they all continue to inspire the evolution of its contents. I strive to facilitate a learning environment that is free of dogma and adaptive to the needs of each student, as I prioritize understanding over fixed techniques. I have found over decades of teaching that when you understand the "why" of what you are doing, techniques become somewhat irrelevant, as it is easier for the student to creatively adapt to the specific needs of the client, and of their own bodies. 

About the Instructor

Juan David Vélez is an Advanced Faculty Member for the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute. He teaches all phases of the basic training, as well as Rolf Movement Certification and Advanced Training. His passion lies in the philosophical framework of the work. As a teacher, he strives to speak to all different types of learners, holding the space for the intuitive, subtle, and empathetic, while also speaking the language of the linear and anatomical.

Cancellation & Refund Agreement: 

• Students dropping out of the class on, or before April 5, 2024 (60 days prior to start) receive 100% of monies paid up to that point, minus a $15 administration fee.
• Cancellations between 30 to 60 days prior to start of class receive any amount paid above $435
• Cancellations 30 days or less prior to start of class receive no refunds.
• Students are advised to wait until they receive a class confirmation notice before booking non-refundable travel arrangements.
